A few weeks ago, I was lucky to head out on my friends boat to explore Sydney’s shimmering harbour and coastline. We packed prawns, freshly sliced ham sandwiches, dips, crackers, fruit and champagne as well as swimwear, music, hats and sunscreen; all the essentials to enjoy a day on the water. Did I mention the weather was spectacularly hot and there wasn’t a cloud in sight? Whilst we were cruising around the harbour, hopping from beach to beach before finally settling at Store Beach, it struck me how many beaches there are in the harbour that are perfectly accessible by boat. Some accessible by car or foot as well, but some only accessible by boat. And it made me think – why not share these with you too? Below are my top five Sydney beaches when boating – some are arguably more beautiful than their mainstream neighbours. If you know of any other secret beaches waiting to be discovered by boat, please feel free to comment below!

STORE BEACH, MANLY Only accessible by water, I first discovered this beach during end of year celebrations on a boat a couple of years ago. Located at Manly’s North Head, this is a favourite spot amongst kayakers and is perfect for a romantic picnic.

CAMP COVE, WATSONS BAY Ahhh, Camp Cove. Famous for its mansions on the foreshore, this treasured beach is Sydney’s top spot for swimming, snorkelling and diving. As well as boating. Camp Cove is also known to attract a bevy of beautiful people on their beautiful boats.

MILK BEACH, VAUCLUSE A sheltered cove and one of Sydney’s most stunning reserves, this sanctuary has panoramic views of the city and Harbour Bridge. Located behind Strickland House in Vaucluse it can be difficult to access by foot therefore it’s usually a quiet spot for boat owners to drop their anchor and enjoy a quiet day on the harbour.

RESOLUTE BEACH, WEST HEAD The name literally speaks for itself, or at least for those who accept the challenge of locating this hidden beach. Accessible by boat only, it’s the perfect place to swim and relax undisturbed.

LADY MARTINS BEACH, POINT PIPER A personal favourite, Lady Martins Beach is one of Sydney's best-kept secrets. Nestled in Felix Bay between Point Piper and Woollahra Point, there is usually only one or two boats at anchor at any given time, so more often than not, you’ll have the beach all to yourself.
