3 THINGS TO DO IN TASMANIA IN WINTER FOR ADVENTURISTS
Tasmania is one of the most beautiful destinations in the world, and without a doubt my favourite state in Australia. It's stunning all year round, however if you're looking to go in winter, there are still just as many things to see if you were to visit in the warmer months. So below are 3 things to do in Tasmania in winter. Enjoy! SPIRIT OF TASMANIA You could fly to Tasmania, but why would you when you can take a trip from Melbourne to Devonport on the Spirit of Tasmania! The overnight journey is mind blowing and you can read about my experience here.
STRAHAN When you arrive at Devonport, hire a car and drive from Devonport down to the west coast and spent a couple of nights in Strahan. Make sure you stay at Strahan Village, it's stunning! There is a lot to do in Strahan, but as it's a quiet little village, I recommend you spend your days going for long drives and relaxing by a fireplace when you return.
CRADLE MOUNTAIN Next I suggest you drive back towards central Tasmania to Cradle Mountain. Stayed at the Cradle Mountain Hotel for at least two nights so you can enjoy two full days of hiking. For the less adventurous, a gentle walk around Dove Lake is perfect. For those who love adventure, walk around the side of Dove Lake, over Marion's Peak, past Kitchen Hut and up to the Summit - if you can make it. The weather at Cradle Mountain can switch in an instant so make sure you are properly clothed and have enough food and water. Then make your way back down the mountain and past Dove Lake again. This will take all day so make sure you set off around sunrise.
The above is definitely a whirlwind trip, but it's utterly beautiful. To get you inspired, below are a few photos from my trip. I hope you enjoy!
