One of the best things about travelling is doing it solo. There are so many benefits to adventuring around the world on your own, the one thing many of us get stuck with is how to take amazing photos as a solo traveller.

But don’t stress! You can take some phenomenal photos when you’re travelling by yourself. The great thing is that it doesn’t matter if you’re new to photography or have mastered the selfie, everyone can take memorable photos. In fact, here are three valuable lessons I’ve learnt from years of trying to capture the perfect photo.

Investing in a few pieces of photography gear will make your solo photography adventures so much easier. The essentials are a tripod to keep your mobile phone still, a clip on wide screen lens to get more in the frame and a remote so you can take images with you in them from a far distance.

Knowing what photo I want to capture is the best way to take photos as a solo traveller. If I  don’t, I end up feeling uninspired and usually feel awkward when I take photos of myself – especially when there are people watching me. So if you want photos you’ll love, you really need to know what kind of photos you want to take. Jump on Instagram to get inspiration, work out your style and practice, practice, practice before your trip.

Don’t be shy! Ask for help. Set up your tripod, frame the shot, take an example photo, ask someone for help and get them to copy the shot exactly. I also find asking other photographers really helps; you can usually spot them by seeing what phones and cameras they are carrying. Also, return the favour and ask if they would like you to take a photo of them!

Now one of the best things about travelling is collecting photos from your solo adventure; but let’s be honest, when you get home they usually sit in your phone memory and never get looked at again. In fact, they usually don’t do much other than hold precious memories when you remember to look at the photos every once in a while.

But what if you could print your favourite photos straight from your phone whilst you are travelling and have them delivered to your home, anywhere in Australia, so when you get back from your trip you can start enjoying those memories every day?

Recently Kodak Alaris and I got together over their Kodak Moments App to photograph and print a couple of my favourite photos following my recent trip to Western Australia. By the time I got home, there were two prints ready for me to frame and place around my house.

For me, there’s nothing better than having photographs around the house that remind me of the places I’ve been and the things I’ve done, especially when I captured them. Lately I’ve been playing with placing multiple frames on the floor in key spaces at home, and seeing the photos in such a large printed format has been making me want to travel even more!

Even better, the app is super easy to use. All you need to do is capture all your photos on your phone, open the Kodak Moments app and choose the product to personalise. It could be standard prints, or even a coffee mug, canvas or photo book. Then select your photos to be used, pay in the app and your precious memories are on their way to your home.

To celebrate, Kodak and I are giving you guys $10 off when you spend $20 or more. All you need to do is download the app from the Google Play Store or the  Apple Store and use the code WKNDR10, which expires on the 10th December – plenty of time to get your Christmas gifts in order!

All you need to remember is that this code is suitable for all products, it’s for delivery to home only purchases in Australia, the order before the discount must be $20 or more (including postage), and the $10 discount will be deducted once the code is added at the checkout. Happy travels!
