5 REASONS TO GO BACKSTAGE AT THE OPERA HOUSE IN SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
It was dark, cold and rainy when I jumped off the bus. With one hand holding my umbrella, I tucked my other hand in the deep warm pocket of my coat. Making my way past the ferry terminals at Circular Quay in Sydney, I couldn’t help but stare at the Harbour Bridge. At this time of the morning, the city is quiet and the lights glistening on the bridge made me feel as though I was in Paris, well, kind of. I continued walking in the direction of the Opera House. Arguably Sydney’s most iconic sight, the Opera House is a multi-venue performing arts centre in the throbbing heart of the CBD. Danish designer Jørn Utzon, whose submission was chosen in an international competition, built the world heritage listed Opera House, which offers gorgeous views of the city and surrounding harbour.
Making my way past Opera Bar, I entered the Opera House through the Stage Door on the main concourse level and was greeted by a very warm tour guide. It was 6.55am and I was ready for my 7am private tour of the Opera House.
So what happened on the tour? Well you’ll have to do the tour yourself to find out! However I have pulled together my top five reasons to do a backstage tour of the Opera House, which should give you a little insight and inspiration.
1. The tour gives you unprecedented access to never seen before stages, sets and private dressing rooms which are usually reserved for performers and staff 2. Your tour guide is an expert, has the inside scoop of the Opera House, shares exciting stories about the real-life dramas that go on behind the curtain, and is able to answer any questions you might have! 3. Following the two-hour tour, you enjoy a private breakfast in the Green Room – only performers and staff are strictly allowed to use this space! 4. The tour group is limited to 10 people, ensuring a personalised experience 5. With three main stages, you get to walk on each stage where luminaries such as Cate Blanchett, Luciano Pavarotti and Ella Fitzgerald have performed
