WHY YOU NEED TO STAY AT THIS HOTEL WHEN YOU’RE NEXT IN SYDNEY
I visit Sydney, a lot. And to be honest, finding accommodation to suit my needs, budget and style has been a bit of a battle. I never like staying in the city because I am usually in Sydney hosting workshops (in Redfern), I catch up with friends for dinner almost always in Surry Hills, and it’s just too far from Clovelly where I used to live and where I love spending time by the water, at Gordon’s Bay. It wasn’t until earlier this year I found myself searching online once again, trawling through the many, many accommodation options when I came across 57 Hotel. And I couldn’t believe it. Here was a hotel I was exactly looking for. Needless to say, I’ve stayed at the boutique hotel on my last two trips and thought it was about time I share this with you! So why do you need to stay at this hotel when you’re next in Sydney? Here are my top four reasons.
ITS BRILLIANT LOCATION I have to admit; I am a bit of a location snob when I visit Sydney. Having been born there and lived there for a few years (I was raised in Brisbane), I only know too well how important it is to stay somewhere central when I am in Sydney for a few days. The last thing I want to think about it is battling traffic in my Uber across the Harbour Bridge. That stuff is made of nightmares for me. I also don’t want to get stuck in the depths of Bondi where there is only one road in, and one road out. So that’s why 57 Hotel is the perfect base for me as it’s centrally located in Surry Hills on 57 Foveaux Street, which you may or may not know, is insanely close to Central Station, tonnes of restaurants and cafes, as well as all the best suburbs in the east – Bondi, Paddington, Watsons Bay, Bronte and Clovelly, to name just a few. If you do want to head to the northern beaches, try to do so outside of peak hour traffic.
ITS THOUGHTFUL AMENITIES I have to admit, I am a sucker for the small things. You know, the little things that make a big difference. 57 Hotel puts on a pastry breakfast every morning, including a huge selection of (proper) coffee and tea. I tried to avoid the pastries as much as I could, but following a night on the cocktails with some friends, I couldn’t help but grab a couple of (small #justsayin) croissants the next morning. They also have three huge bowls of lollies by the lift (hello Minties and Sherbets) as well as an endless supply of takeaway water bottles, which gets refreshed all day. We all know how much a bottle of water costs in Australia, so it’s incredible refreshing (literally) to be given water bottles for free – at a hotel!
ITS CONSIDERED ROOMS Each time I have stayed at 57 Hotel I’ve got a room with killer Sydeny scape views. Even if I am busy for most of the day, who doesn’t love coming back to your hotel room at night to see the twinkling city lights outside? The rooms are also not obnoxiously spacious, which I love. They are equally stylish and functional. I also love the written message on the floor length mirror welcoming me back to 57 Hotel – I’m obsessed with their attention to detail. It’s flawless. And the bathroom design is very, very cool. You’ll see what I mean when you stay there…When I checked into my room last week, there were also two Sparkle cupcakes (which happen to be my favourite) sitting in a nice paper bag on the bed when I walked into the room. Needless to say, they were inhaled in five minutes.
ITS CLEVER WIFI There are two things in life I love – personal passwords that reflect a goal or something that makes you happy in life, and a wifi password that makes me laugh and puts a smile on my face. And 57 Hotel is no exception; their wifi password makes me want to dance.
